Friday, May 17, the temporary traffic signals will be turned on at Old Orchard Road/Woods Drive and at Old Orchard Road/I-94 eastbound exit/entrance ramp.
Monday night, May 20, Old Orchard Road from Woods Drive to I-94 will shift into the prestage traffic pattern. When traffic is shifted to the prestage configuration, the inside lanes of Old Orchard Road will be closed and traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Median removal and temporary pavement installation will follow for future traffic configurations. Monday night, May 20, the westbound I-94 exit ramp to Old Orchard Road will be closed so traffic can be moved over to the ramp's west side. Traffic will still be allowed to head east/west on Old Orchard Road at this time. Once the ramp is reconfigured, the contractor will begin removing guardrail and the paved shoulder.
AT&T has completed their relocations on Old Orchard Road. Nicor continues to install gas main on the north side of Old Orchard Road, but will soon be transitioning to the south side.

Temporary traffic signal installation is still underway at Old Orchard Road/Woods Drive, Old Orchard Road/I-94 eastbound exit/entrance ramp, Old Orchard Road/I-94 westbound exit/entrance ramp, Old Orchard Road/Lawler Avenue and Old Orchard Road/Lavergne Avenue. These temporary signals will be fully operational in approximately two weeks, then the contractor will begin removing the existing traffic signals. Once the temporary signals are fully operational, the contractor will switch Old Orchard Road into the prestage traffic configuration - that means Old Orchard Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction. In this stage, the medians will be removed and temporary pavement will be installed for future traffic staging; the contractor will also install temporary lighting at the Old Orchard Road interchange with I-94 and protective shielding under the Old Orchard Road bridge at night.
Nicor Gas is preparing to directionally drill new gas main on Old Orchard Road from Lacrosse Avenue to Lawler Avenue. Drilling the new gas main will take approximately two to three weeks, then Nicor will focus on the side street connections and services. Tree clearing begins this week and will continue into next week. Most of the trees being removed are for the new westbound I-94 exit ramp; trees being removed from the parkways and medians will accommodate road widening and traffic staging. The contractor will use daily lane closures to complete this work; there will be no overnight closures associated with tree removal. Erosion control measures will soon follow the tree clearing as well as topsoil stripping.
Next week, the contractor will begin installing temporary traffic signals at Old Orchard Road/Woods Drive, Old Orchard Road/I-94 eastbound exit/entrance ramp, Old Orchard Road/I-94 westbound exit/entrance ramp, Old Orchard Road/Lawler Avenue and Old Orchard Road/Lavergne Avenue. These temporary signals are adjustable to accommodate different lane configurations for traffic staging and allow for the removal of the old signals. New signals will be installed at these intersections in 2025.
